Mrs. Alonzo Olmstead Passes
Rebecca Welch Olmstead, widow of the late Alonzo Olmstead, passed away at her home in Litchfield Thursday evening, April 22, 1937. She was born in Jackson county, Indiana, June 22, 1847 and had nearly attained her 90th birthday. she was the daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. James Welch. She was married to Alonzo Olmstead, a verteran of the civil war, on September 12, 1869. To them were born 11 children. Eight are living, namely Mrs. Allie Matheney, Charles and Earl of Blackduck, Minn.; Mrs. Victor Akeson and William of Litchfield; James, Mrs. Dora Porter and Mrs. Victor Anderson of Darwin. A sister, Mrs. Mary Robisnon of Phoenix, Arizona, two brothers, Sam Welch of Seymour, Indiana and Isaac Welch of Stapels, Minn., are living, besides 29 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Claude Kain of Dassel is a nephew.
Mr. and Mrs. Olmstead became residents of Meeker county in 1879 and located in Litchfield in 1924. Mrs. Olmstead had been in failing health for some weeks before her death.
Funeral services were held at the home at 12:30 Sunday and from the Methodish church, of which she was a loyal supporter, at 1 p.m., conducted by the pastor, Rev. Kettlewell.
